Is it just me?

or is Urban Outfitters starting to look a lot like ETSY?

Maybe one day they'll carry BROOKLYNrehab ;)

  2. Hi there, just found your blog via Etsy! Nice work and fun blog! I definitely agree about Urban taking over the "etsy" aesthetic... also, I've noticed that TARGET!... has definitely been surfing Etsy... I find it very sad that they've been stealing artist's designs.

  3. Thanks you guys. Nice to meet you officially (sort of).

Mallory I already follow your blog. SJ I'm soon to follow yours. Your photographers eye is amazing. I've never seen such an appealing ETSY store.

    RE: Urbans/Target
I know they steal the ideas then make them cheaper by mass producing overseas. Don't they know I'd give them some original ideas for free...OK not for free. If they offered me a job to create for them, I would take it. Does that make me a hypocrite? It sure beats the fashion industry. I know first hand that knocking-off is the starting point for so many labels.

  4. Hi Alyssa,

Great to unofficially meet you over the blogsphere... (is that what it's called?) <-- I'm really new at this.

Yes, I'd probably give them original ideas too! And I agree about knock-offs in the fashion industry.

:) Living in MSP, home to Target headquarters... it is not possible to go untouched by their presence. I can even see their building from my apartment's windows!! One of the first things I see when I wake up --- It's weird if I really think about it.

Both places are great sources of inspiration --- and they are really bringing good design to the masses. So I do applaud that ;)

  5. Sigh, the reason UO is starting to look Etsy-ish is that they have a long history of blatantly ripping off small artists.

It wouldn't be a big deal if they purchased the designs, but most of the time the original artists get no compensation or credit.

Bringing good design to the masses is one thing, ripping off artists and undercutting their prices is another.

  6. Oh yes, we at Etsy are doing the work for the so-called designers at big name companies such as Urban Outfitters, Target and Anthropolgie and others. Quite frankly, it sucks.
