Is it just me?

Ideas?

I bought a bunch of pressed flowers and leaves preserved in little wax bags. Anyone have some crafting ideas? I'm not sure what to do with them other than tape them to my window b/c they look so pretty when backlit.

Saving the World, One Fork at a Time

Apartment Therapy is a constant source of joy and inspiration. Here are 2 great ideas that incorporate repurposing or as I like to call it "rehab"-ing. I discovered the muffin tin idea on my own awhile back.

I think I'm going to spend a little more time photographing my vintage finds and a little less time in the ceramic studio.

Sad Day

Today I lost 2 birds and 2 squirrels. Don't worry they were only ceramic but still after spending hours pouring, drying, sanding, waiting for a bisque fire and then glazing...it is really disappointing when they come out of the kiln all battered and bruised. One bird had a stake through its head, the other a huge blue patch from someone else's piece (picture a gassy cloud of color drifting from one piece to another).

The squirrels were even worse. Most of the glaze melted away leaving huge bald spots. Not very appealing or sellable. I had to trash the lot. I think the studio was in a hurry to load the kiln and were not as careful as usual. I have my suspicions the temperature was a wee too high as well. Tomorrow I go back and start all over again.

Sorry for the downer. I promise to post about a happier time soon!

Until then, check out these lovely pieces as seen on Words and Eggs.

Megalomania

I admit it, every once and a while I google myself (ok not myself but BROOKLYNrehab). Today I was surprised to find my porcelain gnomes and mushrooms are controversial. I suppose they are an affront to the strictly modern sensibility of a clutter free home but I'd like to think there is a little room for some tongue and cheek fun in everyone's home. Love them or hate them...now you have a place to post about it! I am happy to say the little guys did manage to charm a few :)

From The Heartland

I found 2 hidden gems on this unlikely site. Sometimes it pays off to dig a little. I can't wait to add this horse to my collection and use the card holder when I finally get over my fear and rent a flea market table.

Where are they now? Tea Set

Work has been crazy busy. I have not had time to update my ETSY store. My favorite part of photographing my vintage finds has taken a back seat to simply surviving. For now I will revisit an old favorite. Bubbo purchased this tea set from me and incorporated them into her backdrops for her lovely notebooks. It is nice to know I can still see them whenever I miss them. She made them look so good!

Beautiful Things By Beautiful People

"K" is for "Knack" of Knack Studios. A wonderful shop in South Carolina filled to the brim with beautiful things. The owner herself is a lovely soul who also transforms old things and gives them new life. Be sure to check out her blog and her flickr for some shots of her store and current inventory. You will soon find her a favorite yourself.

The Shining Star of Ebay

Sometimes at lunch I'll take a gander at ebay rather then my second home (etsy). I usually shift through horrible pictures and try to imagine objects how I would show them. Today I found this and fell in love:

What is it? I don't even know but the seller made me want it. Check out this and the other marvelous and curious things for sale by BROOKTROUTNY. I swear it is not a secret name for me. Though I first read it as BROOKLYNtroutNY ;)

Hopeless Romantic

I found (purchased) this amazing unopened letter at Ugly Luggage here on Bedford Ave. I imagine all these wonderful loving words inside but am saddened that it never reached its intended since it is still sealed shut. I want to open it but recent events have reminded me I must learn the art of patience. Let's see how long I can wait.

Recent Acquisitions

The horse print was a trade with the lovely Miss Crowland. The sea liner salt and pepper NYC souvenir...a purchase from ebay. Wow I spend a lot of time online.

Tassels Still Trending

Right after I posted my new Spelling Bee Champion Rosette pin with tassels, I saw this cool gap bag on Black. White. Yellow. What a great find. I've been loving the Victorian inspired metal tassels and am happy to see the trend move into new territory.

Shout Out to Anything Indie

Andrea was so kind to let me know she posted my branch along with the nicest write-up. She has a great looking blog. Check it out.

Doilies

Wow I just discovered you can blog from someone else's Flickr account. It feels a little like copying someone's homework but this photo is too good not to share. Be sure to check out the rest of Elsiemarley's photos and her ETSY store. I love her style.

Nursing a Broken Heart

Little City

Chrisi of The Oak Leaves loves to see where her creations end up just like me. Though she is a little more proactive about. She is contacting all the people who bought from her so she can post the picks on her blog. Here is my documentation of the windowsill behind my bed. I love my city! Thank you Chrisi!

Curio Boxes Overload

The most brilliant marketing of a movie ever! The Coraline folks made curio boxes and sent them out to bloggers so that they would post them and build some buzz. I hope to get mine in the mail any day now ;)

As seen on NotCot.

Keepsake Locket

Hi there, the ETSY folks picked my locket to be part of a voting competition. I'm really afraid I will come in last. The competition is steep! There are many items I myself have admired. If you have not already voted for them, maybe you can spare a vote for me. Thanks for looking!
